The School of Optometry of the Inter American University
of Puerto Rico is a private institution accredited by the
Higher Education Council of Puerto Rico
and the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education of the
United States. The school counts with a series of clinics known
by the name
Inter American
Institute of the Eye of Puerto
Rico (better known as IIO for "Instituto Interamericano del Ojo"). We dedicate
our efforts
to prevent, diagnose and treat visual conditions that
can inflict severe visual loss. A visual examination
is recommended to all children beginning their first school
year,
to people
with vision changes, double vision, headaches,
itch or discomfort and to all person
with systemic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure
and/or high cholesterol.
IIO operates
a central clinic in Hato Rey and satellite clinics
in Caguas, Juana Díaz, Río Piedras, Bayamón and Santurce. They offer visual field examination services to geriatric
centers, schools and nearby communities.
In the established clinics examination and complete visual care services are provided to children and
adults of all ages by previous appointment, except
in emergency situations.
