This wonderful project, inaugurated on April 14, 2011 during the 30th anniversary of the School of Optometry Inter American University of Puerto Rico, has two main objectives:
Raise funds to the scholarship fund of the School of Optometry. This initiative will help those students who, despite their economic needs, continue to prepare themselves to prevent blindness in Puerto Rico, United States and worldwide.
Establish a way of supporting artists from Puerto Rico, particularly those with visual disabilities, including the blinds.
This innovative project is led by Mrs. María Julia Aulet, Director of Development Office of the School of Optometry with the assistance of Mrs. Mildred Collazo, artist and art curator specialist.
The artworks have been placed in two sections of our modern facilities in the School of Optometry for the enjoyment of all. As a Permanent Exposition Room, located in the hallway of the administration, facing the main lobby, we will expose the works of various Puerto Rican artists. In the current exhibition we show the artworks of the following artists:
On the other hand, in the Exhibit Hall, located in the main floor hallway of the second floor of the School; it will be expose works of artists visually impaired or blind. Currently on show are works by renowned artist Mr. Daniel Hernandez. The exhibited works are evaluated in terms of artistic quality.
These pieces of art are available for sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to students through the scholarship fund of the School of Optometry, while the other part will go directly to the artist. The current exhibition prices start at $ 200.00.
